A Second Date in My Little Love Story

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Marriage

loveThis is the fourth in a series of post I’m calling “My Little Love Story” read it from the beginning here.

The night ends too quickly as it has before. He anxiously asks me out for the next night, “Want to go out tomorrow night?” Of course I say yes, and we begin determining what it is we can do, finally deciding to go “bowling”. I have a blast again. I can’t wait to see him again.

The next week we talk on the phone constantly. I just can’t seem to get enough of his voice. Early in the week we make plans for the weekend. His parents want to meet me, would I come to his house for dinner. Of course, after all I’ve already met the brother, why not the ‘rents?

Dinner the next Friday is fun, his mom makes spaghetti, it tastes just like my grandmother’s. I chat with his parents like I’ve known them my whole life. We leave there to go on another “drive”. It has become “our thing”. I begin to think there is definitely something in store for our future.

But just what is it? Find out more tomorrow.

My Little Love Story’s First Date

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Marriage

loveThis is the third post in a series I am calling “My Little Love Story”. Read the first post here.

So call me anxious, but I could just not wait a whole two weeks to see the “friend” again. The one that wanted to see me again. So, I call him, yes you read that right, I call him and ask him to come over for dinner with my family. He agrees. I’m completely embarrassed when he arrives and my dad’s parents are there giving me a graduation gift for my upcoming graduation and my aunt is there because well she’s always around. He must of thought we had called in the calvary.

Luckily they leave and dinner gets underway, we enjoy ourselves, my parents seem to approve and after dinner he asks if I want to go for a drive. We go, enjoying conversation and a Coke from Sonic (he knew how to steal this girl’s heart). I was a little disappointed the evening had to end so soon, but he had work the next day so he had to get home.

Finally, the weekend arrives and we get to go on our first date. It wasn’t what I expected, but looking back now it somehow fits us perfectly. We went on our first date to a catfish house in the middle of nowhere with his brother, 2 other guys and one of their girlfriends. I am insanely nervous, but enjoy myself a ton and love his company. The rest of the evening was spent riding the back roads of the county I now call home.

How long can we wait to see each other again? Find out tomorrow.

More of My Little Love Story

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Marriage

LoveThis is the second in a series of posts I’m calling “My Little Love Story”, read the beginning here.

So, the date is over and I think nothing will come of it. My “date” paid absolutely no attention to me, leaving me with his “friend” more than he was around. I did not have the worst time ever, but I sure spent a lot of awkward moments with his “friend”. Needless to say I felt it was just another of those dates that will never amount to anything, though I had not had many of those in my life, I felt this would be one.

Two days later, on Sunday, my cousin calls, wanting to know how it went. I honestly tell her it was nothing special and I am ready to move on. Wait she says, let me go ask him what he thought. I tell her, “I don’t think we’re compatible” and to not bother. She insists and hangs up calling back a few hours later with news that she has spoken to my date. The feeling is “mutual” we just do not have anything in common. BUT, “But what?” I ask. “But,” she continues, “his friend is interested”. I say, “In me?” “Yes”, she continues, “Can we give him your phone number?” “Sure”, I respond hesitantly. I really was not sure what to think at this point.

The number is given and I anxiously wait for a phone call. Of course I’m excited, the “friend” and I had shared some good conversation and he was a nice guy. The next day after school I’m sitting in the living room chatting with my mom when the phone rings. I answer it, and it’s HIM, I motion to my mother the news, tell him to hold on a moment, and run to grab the phone in my bedroom.

We chat for over an hour, he asks me out for the weekend, but I can’t go, I am attending a leadership camp for girls I had been chosen for and won’t be able to go out till the following weekend. He understands and we set a date for the following Friday. I anxiously await seeing him again.

How does date number one turn out?? Am I willing to wait that long to see him again? Find out tomorrow…. as my love story continues.

My Little Love Story

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Marriage

loveIn less than 1 month I will be married for 8 years. That to me is hard to believe. It feels like just yesterday I was falling in love with this man. He was coming to my house, I was begging my parents to spend more time with him, while they were begging me to hang out at home more. I was 18 he was 25. That was over 9 years ago.

I guess you want the full story huh? The who, what, when, where and how? The love story, right? Ahhhh, never thought I’d share this on a blog, but here goes. I met my husband on a date with another guy, yes, you read that right. This can be a bit of a comical story if you think about it. Like I said I was 18. It was my senior year in high school. I had been dating my high school sweetheart on and off. You know how those relationships can sometimes be. However, this time I was getting fed up. I could not take our differences anymore and I had decided to pull the plug on the relationship for the last time.

Not two weeks later, my cousin decides that I cannot sit at home and I must go out so she wants to set me up with a friend of her boyfriend. Her boyfriend is 25, which made me a little nervous. But, hey I was tired of sitting home a bit too, though I was pretty fed up with guys in general. So I agree, I go with her out to her boyfriend’s house to meet this “guy” and the story begins.

We chat, I’m not impressed, but I don’t think anything will come of it honestly. So, I go home that night not thinking anything will happen as a result of the meeting. Fast forward to the next afternoon, it’s a Friday, I am on the phone with a guy friend when I get a beep. I answer it and it’s the “guy” asking me to go with him, my cousin and her boyfriend, and a “friend” of his to a concert in the next town in a few hours. He says he has an extra ticket and the “friend” of his is quiet and we’ll never know he’s around. I agree, and he promises to pick me up in a couple of hours.

He arrives at my house, comes in, gets scrutinized by my daddy and we are off. We get in the truck and drive back to Carrollton (where he’s from and I now live) and we meet my cousin, her boyfriend and the “friend”. The “friend” climbs in beside me as I scoot over closer to the “guy” who is my date for the evening. We drive to the next town to the concert, enjoying some occasional “small talk”. The evening goes pretty well, my date wanders off to the restroom several times leaving me with his “friend” who I chat with more than I do my date.

On the way home it gets real interesting when my date has a “page” from the Sheriff’s Office, did I mention my cousin’s boyfriend and my date are Deputy Sheriff’s and the “friend” is an “auxiliary deputy”. Anyway, he stops at his house to call the “page” back and leaves his “friend” and I in the car a while. We again chat for a while until my date finally returns to take me home. He drops me off, kindly walking me to the door and I cross another date off the list, believing honestly that nothing would ever come of the night out.

Curious ??? Did I go on a second date? Come back tomorrow to find out the “rest of my little love story”.
