It’s All About Connections

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Me

Yesterday, as I blogged about here, I attended a webinar by Lynn Terry of Clicknewz.com for mom bloggers. I do consider myself a mom blogger, but as I stated yesterday I was an online business owner before I was a mom blogger so I see things a little differently than some. Nevertheless, one of the things we were challenged to determine from yesterday’s webinar is what our goal is for our mom blog. As well as where we see our blog in 5 years. So, I wanted to share some of my thoughts.

Though I may have started my blogs for different reasons I believe my ultimate goal is connecting. In my ministry, Beauty By Design Ministries, I desire to connect moms with their daughters who in turn will help their daughters to connect with God. I notice here on my mom blog that I blog mostly about God, ministry and family. Sure I have stints where I blog about working from home, or organizing, or frugal living, but ultimately I am all about ministry. That is my focus, my heart. I want to use my mom blog as a means by which to connect with other moms who desire to connect with their children (my focus is girls) and help to turn their hearts towards God. So, ultimately for me, its all about connections. My connection with other Christian moms and their connection with their daughters, and all of our connections with God, because ultimately that’s what I want for myself and others, a valuable, intimate connection with God.

As for five years from now, I hope this will only get easier to do as my own daughter grows I can share real life stories of how I connect with her. But, for now I use my own experiences from my past and present of connecting with my own mom.

Be sure to check back here on Monday as we are participating in next week’s Bloggy Giveaways, you will want to be sure to enter to win a 30 Day Journaling Guide from Beauty by Design Ministries.

A First

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Me, Just News

Today, I did something for the first time, I blogged about politics, and because it wasn’t something I was necessarily comfortable doing, I did it on another person’s blog rather than my own.  I stepped out of my comfort zone in a major way.

Blogging about politics has always been one of my self-imposed no-no’s, but today is different, go check out why at Moms in the Right.  Leave me your thoughts, your opinons, I’d love to hear from you.

Yes, It’s Real

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Me

Yes, it’s all real. Sometimes people ask, “How real are you on your blog?” or “Are you the same person in real life as in online /blog life?” To which I must answer a resounding “YES”. This is me, the real me. My life is an open book. I am not hiding anything, not running from anything, not trying to escape anything when I blog. I blog because I love it. It is fun, it allows me to write without having to worry about grammatical errors or being right or wrong or if it sounds right, it’s just my thoughts that is all it is.writing

I also continue to blog because I LOVE the blogging community. Never before have I made so many connections with so many people. Moms, momprenuers, WAHMs, SAHMS, others, all who blog and have this as our sometimes only connection but its amazing to see. I’ve met moms who are Christian but I’ve also met some who claim to have no religion yet I still connect with them. It’s awesome and I love it.

I feel it’s a great way to share and you know what every single testimony I share and blessing that I tell about is real. God is working in my life just like I’m telling you. I am struggling with the issues I blog about I am not making them up. I do set the goals I set, I don’t just put those up here to look good. This is real and I am loving every minute of being real with you.

How about you, is your blog real, do you love blogging, do you enjoy the mom blog and other blog communities you are a part of, is the online world as much a part of your life as the offline…. how do you feel? Tell me about it here or blog about it and return here to post the link in the comments. I want to hear from you!

Reviews…Get Your Reviews

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just News

Reviews Yes, it’s true. I’m starting a review blog. This is something I’ve been interested in since I saw the first one. Not sure whose it was but I was always intrigued by them. Then, lately I have gotten a few requests for me to do a review for them. So I thought, “why not”. Being someone who likes a good project, I thought I”d begin working on this in my “spare” time. Not that I have much of it for now, but I hope to soon.

Just to give you an idea about the types of things I am looking to review or that would be a good fit for me, areas of interest include, but not limited to:

  • baby items,
  • toddler items,
  • preschool items,
  • organizing items,
  • Christian items,
  • WAHM items,
  • blogging related products/services,
  • scrapbooking items,
  • cooking products.
  • books.

Click here for a PDF of my stats for May to give you an idea of what type of traffic my mom blog receives. To learn more about me and my interests read My 100 Things and About pages.

The reviews will be posted here, my new review blog.

I will be available to begin reviews as of July 1st. Be the first to be reviewed, begin submitting items, products or services for review immediately. I look forward to hearing from you.

To submit reviews email me at reviews @ lifefrommylaptop.com (no spaces) or fill out the following form here.

Surprised?? I was…..

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just News

When I saw this… Inspired by Alyssa

I was excited too, Wow! I thought I’m featured at the Mom Bloggers Club. This is a super cool, chick club I just joined probably weeks ago because yes, I am a MOM blogger. And I love to connect with other mom bloggers. So, this was a fabulous place to do so. I was even so inspired by the network/club itself that I formed my own network for my newest venture, Organized Life by Design.

Though I love my new network, I am still fascinated with how well the Mom Blogger’s Club is run and it still is an inspiration and somewhat of a challenge to me to do as well with my own network/club. It is updated almost by the hour it seems and the owner The Mom Salon does sooo well with it. I wonder if she isn’t constantly working on the site, that or she has a fabulous team of people working for her.

I know my favorite part of the Mom Blogger’s Club “look” is their graphics, I am soo envious of the awesome graphics that I have started trying to create my own graphics, so again they’ve inspired me to take action. I love anybody that does that! I like to be inspired.

So, I was honored to see my face on the main page of the network this morning. Hope you’ll come check out what all the fuss is about over at The Mom Bloggers Club.

P.S. The Mom Salon or your fabulous graphics team if you’re reading this…. “How did you lighten my face and make my photo look so much better?”

Edited to add: The Mom Blogger’s Owner who is known on the site as The Mom Salon is actually named Jennifer James. I was hoping to find out her real name!!!

Plus, I obviously got excited before I scrolled because after going back to The Mom Blogger’s Club I found this:  Lily
