Welcome to Life from my Laptop, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You can also sign up to receive my posts via email. Thanks for visiting!

For a long time I have wanted to be able to provide a community for young girls online.  As my ministry, Beauty by Design Ministries’ mission is “turning the hearts of girls towards God”.  I felt that the net was lacking in a safe and interactive environment for girls to participate in. Though I have not been able to have the tools or the resources to create such a place I have found one that I can recommend in The Precious Girls Club.  This fun and interactive website for young girls is just what I thought about for so long but more than I ever knew I could have created.  Sponsored by Precious Moments, this place is perfect for young girls and safe too.

Not only do they have the interactive community they call “The Precious Girls Club” but they also have a “Precious Moms and a line of products to go along with them.  These include figurines, charm bracelets, and books.  I was sent one of the books called Operation Kindness, which teaches young girls the Biblical concept of kindness.  It is one of the books in a series.  They also stuffed dog too.  Both are perfect products for young girls and best of all are the concepts that they teach.

I have a second copy of the book and a stuffed dog too to give away here on the blog.  So, if you have a young girl please leave her name in the comments below and tell me how she would benefit from The Precious Girl’s Club to win a copy of Operation Kindness and the cute little stuffed puppy too.  Giveaway will be held Wednesday,July 1.

Exergen Temporal Scanner

It is one of the worst feelings as a mom, knowing your child is sick and may have a fever. Taking a child’s temperature can be low on the list of “fun events”, but it is a must do in these times.

However, this new Exergen Temporal Thermometer definitely makes the dreaded task a bit easier, measuring the temperature from their forehead, no holding a thermometer under a tongue or arm, and it is quick too.

The Exergen TemporalScanner™ infrared thermometer, which reads a temperature in just two seconds, is available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Costco, Babies R Us, Toys R Us and Sam’s Clubs nationwide. It gives parents a comforting option for taking a temperature. Gentle as a healing hand against a child’s face, the Exergen TemporalScanner gauges body temperature in two seconds by capturing the naturally emitted heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead and is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery.

Windex Outdoor All in One

I am not an outdoors woman.  I do not spend a lot of time outside therefore I don’t often think about things like “cleaning the windows” or “weeding the flowerbeds”.  Luckily, I have a husband who will do those thing if they need done.  And, we don’t have many “flowerbeds” thank the Lord.

Nonetheless, when I was given the opportunity to receive a product that would help him clean our Windows I jumped on it, because even though I may not be outside to notice them, I’m inside and realize that they need it if I’m going to see out of them well.

They did the trick, fast, easy and made them quite clean and shiney, with little effort on my hubby’s part.  He was pleased.  So,  the next time you need to wash your windows, pick up a Windex Outdoor All in One kit and you can get the job done quickly and easily.

Ready to wash them now?  You can win a free kit here on my blog by commenting below.  Let me know what your least favorite chore is and I’ll enter you to win a Windex Outdoor All in One kit. Drawing to be held Wednesday, April 1. Taking entries through midnight Tuesday, March 31.

“This post was written for Family Review Network as part of a program by SC Johnson, who also supplied the product for review and give away.”

A Fireproof Marriage

by Alyssa Avant on February 23, 2009

Last night my husband and I watched Fireproof.  It was a movie I had been looking forward to as it was by the same guys who created Facing the Giants, a movie I cry through no matter how many times I’ve watched.  These guys were just ordinary guys in the South who decided to try and make a movie that would compete with the big dogs, minus the showing of alot of skin, the language, the vulgarity, etc.  They succeeded and I believe that they’ll do so again with this film.

Fireproof is a movie that’s goal is to help couple’s whose marriage is about to fail just like the couple in the movie.  Honestly, I expected to be able to “relate” to the couple in some way, but after watching the movie I’m glad I couldn’t.  First, the couple was seemingly agnostic.  They didn’t exactly NOT believe in God they just didn’t have a relationship with him, luckily my husband and I both have a strong relationship with God and therefore our marriage is based on that relationship.

As a result, this movie made me so thankful for my strong marriage.  It was a good reminder too of what we should be doing for each other as husband and wife and what the marriage covenent is all about.  It is a covenent, before God, not just a contract before men.

Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
