Another Weekend Recap

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just News

weekendWow, It’s time to do this again?? I completely forgot until someone linked here saying they got the idea of a “weekend” recap from me.  EEKKK!!

Anyway, this week honestly has been quite the “blur”.  I started out the week in hopes of having baby #3 quickly. However, as I sit here with him still “baking” as some say, you can tell that didn’t happen.  Hopefully tomorrow is the ever fateful day.  I am going to the doctor at 10 am on Monday, pray he puts me in for induction.

So, recapping this week. Monday was the doctor’s appointment. I had dilated but since then nothing.  Tuesday and Wednesday my mom and grandmother came over to help out with the kids and house. Praise God that was a blessing.  Thursday I had to go it alone, and Friday Greg ended up off because his state car went capoot.  We went out to lunch and out for supper, yay no cooking and had a good time spending time together.

I made mammoth to do lists this week in an effort to “stay busy”, which I pretty much did working online on my websites and installing two Wordpress blogs and doing customizations for two clients.  This is sort of one of those “hobbies” I get paid to do.  I know it’s not something I really have “time” for, but it’s relaxing and fun to me, I know I’m wierd, a nerd, go read yesterday’s post you’ll understand why I say that.  But seriously, I learned Wordpress over time and I have come to love tweaking and playing with it.  Fortunately for me there are people out there who hate doing this sort of thing but want a website or blog set up so they pay me.  Win-win!

So, between all that and doing ministry related stuff, I booked a speaking engagement this week and worked out the details on that, I’ll be in Senatobia, MS speaking to Moms and daughters at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 23.  Excited! I have stayed busy this week, ever so impatiently waiting for baby Brady to make his arrival.  I am beyond ready and hope upon hope tomorrow is the BIG day!

A Review of Mom Masterminds & Other News

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just News

Mom MastermindsIf you have read my blog for any amount of time you know I’m a member of a great group called Mom Masterminds, today I did a review of it here. Check it out! You don’t want to miss it.

Not only that but I have other news happening today too.  Maybe today will be the day for news and a birth announcement will be pending later on.  A girl can hope right?

My other news involves one of my online businesses.  Ghostwriting has brought me much success over the past few months and though I enjoy it, it brings in great money, and I have awesome clients you all know I’ve been talking a great deal about focus and the fact that God has truly put me on this earth to do ministry, so I’m going to be needing some help with the ghostwriting side of things because, well I need to commit more time to ministry, but do not want to entirely give up the writing business so if you’re looking to work from home, I may be just the ticket to your beginnings.  Find out more here.

I Have a Hunch

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just News

I have this hunch.  God is doing something big in my life.  Well, I knew that, but I am beginning to see it more and more as he reveals things little by little.  First you must know that God has been doing a great deal with me lately.  Read back a few weeks worth of posts in my blog and you can read all about it.  God is always at work in my life, but sometimes well, I notice it more than others.  Now is one of those times.

Over the past week I have taken some of the things I felt God prodding me to do, focus, trust him, etc and I have done it.  Outsourcing a lot of my writing not only due to the impending birth of my third child, but also to free up my time to focus on my ministry.  As a part of that I wanted to improve my websites and figure out ways to monetize them that would make up for some of the outsourcing.

I felt led to also beef up my newsletter, offering my subscribers more, and better quality. I will admit sometimes this got the slack because I was writing so much for others I didn’t have a great deal of time to write articles for my site or content for the newsletter.  I felt bad about this but I was always worried about the money and where it would come from if I didn’t write.  Now, I am trusting God to provide.  I’ve stepped out on faith before, so I began asking myself, “Why can’t you do it again?”  I finally decided that my answer was, “I could indeed do it again, so I have.”

So, in doing so this past week I hired some coaches, while others volunteered to help me, online friends and other WAHMS coming to my aid, a God thing in itself.  Then, I did a ton of work on my sites and I beefed up that newsletter.  It really does look better and is a better quality.  Finally, in the newsletter I asked for feedback and for once guess what? I got feedback.  It’s amazing what you get when you simply, ASK.  What a “duh” moment.

So, one of the things that I discovered was I have a lot of homeschoolers on my list.  This means something to me in more ways than one, but first of all I have always wanted to homeschool my children, and though my son attended private preschool last year and is signed up for the fall, I haven’t given up on that dream, though my husband isn’t all for it.  Second, the homeschooling community or at least the one I believe I’d want to be a part of is deeply rooted in the Christian community, meaning to get involved with them would be right up my alley and would fit the target market of my ministry so well.

Fortunately, there are already homeschoolers out there receiving my newsletter.  Better than that I discovered from a couple of emails i received that the homeschoolers who are receiving my newsletters are the girls themselves, or at least their moms are sharing them with them because the girls themselves wrote to me.  One has already in turn joined my affiliate program and the other has requested for us to cross-promote as she has a product she promotes to Christian teens as well.  In fact her name is Amanda and she blogged about a product of mine today on her blog.  Check it out here.

Finally, at the advice of one of those WAHMs who have reached out to help me I began looking for moms who would review the products I have my affiliates promoting so that my affiliates could use the reviews.  I immediately got to work finding reviewers and who stepped up to review them but more homeschoolers.

SchoolhouseFinally, one of those homeschoolers suggested that I submit my guides to The Old Schoolhouse Store and she got me in touch with the person to do so.  How exciting! So, I have a hunch, homeschooling may be in my future in more ways than one and frankly that excites me.

Now, to convince my husband it’s a good idea.

Pinching Myself

rad revI am still pinching myself because after this past weekend I realize dreams really can come true.  God not only confirmed in me but once again I felt him calling me to a higher purpose, a purpose only he can establish and a plan only he can orchestrate.  You see in the months before I signed up to attend She Speaks I began conversing with Leann Rice, Executive Director of Proverbs 31, and She Speaks Conference Coordinator, as well as Kristen Sigmon and Samantha Reed who work with The Next Generation, Proverbs 31’s teen division about becoming a part of the work of this division of Proverbs 31 Ministries.  After all teens are my heart.

Before coming to the conference these ladies said that we’d get together while I was there to talk about the possibility of my becoming involved with the Next Generation.  As a part of this I began back several months ago submitting devotions to them for publication on their blog for teens, A Radical Revolution.  I have had a couple of these devotions show up there already.

So, as soon as I arrived at the conference, I met Leann, mind you for the purpose of actually being able to stay there overnight as the hotel apparently thought I was coming in on Friday rather than Thursday, but sweet Kristen, willingly gave my husband & I her room, this only begins to tell you what kind of people these ladies are.

Leann assured me then and there we’d meet this weekend, but it might not be that night since her schedule had her working late.  I have to admit some doubts crept in as I began to worry, “do they really want to talk with me?”  But, at lunch on Saturday I sat pinching myself as I had lunch with Leann, Kristen and Samantha and was asked to share about the ministry God allows me to do with teen girls, my calling, my testimony and my desire to work with them.  It was an awesome few moments, one of the highlights of my weekend.  As I stared into the eyes of Samantha and Kristen as they obviously felt my same passion for youth, specifically teen girls I felt an instant connection.  As I shared with them, I had seen the Next Generation girls, those teen girls who attended the conference walking around and felt a strong urge to “follow them” as I have such a passion for sharing with and ministering to teens.

Not only did Kristen, Samantha and I have an instant connection, but I was also told by Shari and the other members of my speaker evalution group that they could see my passion for teens as I spoke.  Confirmation yet again, and I am sooo excited that Kristen, Samantha, Leann and I agreed to stay in touch as God’s plans for the Next Generation grow and come into being I will continue to be a part.  I can only imagine what God has in store, as just being able to be a part of this in any small way is a fullfilment of the dreams God has planted in me.  One thing is for sure, I will be back at She Speaks next year and I hope to be able to be a part of The Next Generation track there in some way.
