My Lifestyle

Welcome back!

I have heard people talk about it many times, having a certain lifestyle.  I once giggled when I was on a tram at the airport as I listened to a duo of businessmen chatting about the “lifestyle” that they enjoyed.  It consisted of “taking it easy” in the summer and going to the pool, spending some time on the golf course, there were several other statements  that they made that made me realize my life did not ever resemble theirs, but I had the feeling they would enjoy the freedom my lifestyle enables me.

They didn’t seem to have ever experienced “small town life”.  I live in a small town, therefore, I enjoy a small town lifestyle.  Not only that, but I enjoy the lifestyle of a small town mom of three with a work at home career.  It isn’t the life that I dreamed of, because I could never dream this up.  It is too good for me to dream up.

Living in a small town means that I know “almost” everyone in town. I enjoy the tight knit family I call my church. I enjoy the fact that all my friends are my child’s friend’s parents.  This week I realized the luxury my lifestyle affords me when in the middle of the week I was able to fix a meal and take it to a lady in my church who has been having health issues.  No other lifestyle would allow me to do what I want when I want and still have a career, make an income and be able to raise my children.  This is better than the life I dreamed of, and it is MY LIFE.  Can you tell I am thankful for it today?  What about you?

  1. Like you, I’m from a small Mississippi town so I completely agree…what our lifestyle looks like to others may seem boring by comparison, but only we understand how rich it really is..

I think those who do not have the WAHM "lifestyle" truly do not see the rewards we do. I am thankful of all the "little" things I experience everyday. I have lived the fast "lifestyle" before and this is FAR more rewarding.

  3. This was a very nice post to read particularly today. I have lived in both big cities and in small towns, and I can absolutely relate to the type of relationships you are describing. I believe that it is within us to be able to create these type of genuine relationships regardless of where you live though. Although in big cities it is unlikely that you will be able to ever "know" everyone, I have also been fortunate enough to enable and sustain lifelong meaningful relationships, through honesty and genuine dedication from all parties involved :)

    Thanks for sharing!

Is this the intense debate you wanted replied to?? I grew up in a small town and have lived in large cities, I'm happy somewhere in the middle, as long as I can get to church and my friends. That's what's important to me.
