Taking Off My Super Woman Cape

Welcome back!
Over the weekend my husband reminded me that I used to call myself Super Woman. I looked at him strange and he said, “Well you did.” I told him that I must have been joking and that I surely do not feel like super woman now. After having three children, taking on a writing business, establishing a ministry and returning to seminary to finish my Master’s I feel like anyone BUT Super Woman.
Today, after three weeks of feeling like I was in a major rut and totally realizing I am experiencing what many of you have probably experienced before, “Burnout” I’ve decided to seriously end the “super woman” phase of my life and to take off my super woman cape.
I cannot continue down the path that I have started down. I am experiencing major burnout and I am slowly as a result loosing my passion and my creativity. I’m no longer enjoying what I do, so therefore something HAD to give.
Today, I did what I encourage others to do as the trainer over at FaithLeaps.com I took a leap of faith. I am officially outsourcing all writing to my team of writers over at A Writer for Hire. While I will still be overseeing all the articles and working with my clients via all correspondence, I will no longer be heading up the writing itself. I am going to be putting all my creative juices and writing skills back into my passion, my ministry and FaithLeaps itself. More than anything I love to help others. So my focus will now be those things I love to do:
- Helping others to take a leap of faith into speaking, writing and ministry.
- Helping moms and daughters grow their relationship with each other and their relationship with God.
- Helping girls be what God made them to be not what the world wants them to be.
Stay tuned this means projects for me, and you know projects make me happy. So be looking for some happier posts in the days ahead.

Totally hear ya! Been there done it and was off line for 3 years because of a major burnout, now I try to focus myself and not put to much on my plate and when I do feel I have, it is time to reevaluate everything and make changes where necessary…glad to see you have done the same before it ran you offline and away from your business.
We as women are an amazing species of human beings with out the tag of super women, although I think too many of us expect ourselves to be more extraordinary than we already are just to prove something to ourselves…
Great symbolism of taking off the cape…good for you! Here is to happiness and life!

I completely needed this blog today! I have been experiencing the same sort of situation. Feeling like I need to do more, more, more to “be something” when really i’m unsatisfied because i’m missing out on the important stuff. I’m new at starting a business and on top of it trying to start it from home with small children and a big child (aka hubby lol). Life can be so overwhelming some times. Good for you on taking a step back, looking in and making a change. And thank you for confirming the fact i’m not the only one going through this. =)

Good for you Alyssa. Capes rarely look good on us anyways

I’m glad to see that you are getting your passion back! Super in the dictionary is defined as “above, beyond.” You don’t have to do “everything” to be a super woman. If you are doing what God wants you to do you are “above and beyond.” You are a “Super Woman” who can help others. If you are stressed and overwhelmed it’s hard to care for others in your life. Don’t underestimate the power of prayer. Let God help and guide you to be the “Super Woman” he has for you.

Good for you! I’m trying to trim the excess and plump up my passion!

Alyssa,
I just want you to know what an inspiration you are to me. I have not been at it as long as you (working from home) but already I’m thinking about redirecting my business back to my passion. That passion is helping women and others. In order to do so, I may have to let go of some other things so I can really pursue the passion God has laid on my heart. It definitely will be a leap of faith!
