Messing With My Groove

Welcome back!
I tell you, I know kids need a break and that Spring Break is good for them, but man it sure is “messing with my groove”. I had been doing very well with my routine. I was getting things done daily, until this hit! Man has it messed me up. Sleeping late, procrastinating, play dates, constant kids, it is too much for me.
An online friend reminded me that this is just a taste of how summer will be and that summer is “just around the corner”. Why did you remind me? Will I ever find a balance in the summer time? Oy! I’m ready to get my groove back. I love my son and he’s been good but I want my routine!
What about you, do you get out of your groove on “breaks”?

I’ve been worrying about summer since Christmas time!
I totally know what you mean, but we’re moms, we can handle it. We’ll find a new groove and may have to modify things a bit. Good luck!

Ahhh Balance— the search for it is what makes me so damn complicated. lol

More schedules. Soooo not my thing, but with a son with Asperger’s, you learn you have to have schedules. And through it I’ve learned a lot about how to ’schedule’ fun!
During holiday breaks we always take a short 2-3 day trip down to my parents’ home, about 90 minutes away. They have ‘Camp Grandma.’ This helps. But during Spring break I have a small activity planned each day. Some sort of outing either near to our home or in our home. Some days its just a nature walk–what can we find near our home? Others its going to a museum, etc. But its short–maybe an hour or two. And I schedule my normal stuff around it–bible time, prayer time, work, kitchen, etc. The activity gets us quality time together, but I still get time to get the important stuff done!
For summer we get a membership somewhere fun every year. We have Kings Island locally, which believe it or not is actually therapy for my son–all that water, bouncing and spinning is really good for him. We go one day a week–one day in the middle of the week where they get their favorite stuff all day long. The rest of the week they are so worn out and so much better behaved!! I can have my schedule and ‘groove’ the rest of the week. And since we always go on the same day of the week, its not a huge disruption to my schedule! (We’ve also done the zoo, when they were younger.)
We basically revert to the holiday schedule any day they’re out of school. It really, really helps. I set it up once, and now we all know what to expect when they’re out of school!

LOL!! You are funny:) I had to develop a serious schedule for myself since my kiddos are always home – I homeschool:)
I do have specific times dedicated to ‘mommy and work time’ so they know to stay busy or go outside and play while mommy is working.
Once you have a routine it is easy to maintain your sanity. If I were you… I would develop a schedule for when you have all the kiddos at home, so you do not find yourself running in circles and not accomplishing anything.
You can do it, have faith:)
