To Keep or Not to Keep?

Welcome back!

NailsEarlier today I posted on the topic of confidence.  One of the things some women do to build their confidence is to do things to pamper themselves, getting a manicure or pedicure, getting a new hairdo, buying a new outfit or pair of shoes, etc.  I normally don’t do any of these things often.  I don’t treat myself nearly enough, however just before She Speaks I decided that since I was going to be up in front of a group of others speaking and that they’d see my hands, especially since I talk with them ALOT, I would go and get myself some nails.  Yes, these are acrylics because I have horrible nails which 90% of the time I bite off.  One of my bad habits.

So, I got them done on Tuesday prior to leaving for She Speaks and I love them. I have only had them done a couple of times in the past and never kept them or got them “filled in” just let them grow off or eventually fall off.  However this time I am considering the indulgence.  I am considering getting refills and keeping up with them.  I dont’ know how often this would need to be done.  Some of you ladies who currently participate in this pleasure might can tell me but I do know that the first time cost me $30 but refills are only $15 from what I understand.

So help me decide? Keep or not to keep?  Leave me your vote in the comments.

  1. I have had them at times and am also a nail biter. If it makes you feel good then keep them for now, especially since you are having a new baby.

I get them done every once in a while, keep them for a while (usually around the holidays) and then life gets too busy for fill-ins and I let them come off and go back to biting :-)

  2. I think they are very lovely on you. I’m so natural that I’d never be able to work with those nails or do the upkeep but that is me not you. I think they look nice.

I don’t know about acrylic. They would be a waste on my hands but as far as a regular pedicure/manicure — that is worth the treat once in awhile. I just had both today while still here at my mom’s in Charlotte and it was just a beautiful thing. The guy was the best ever. Happiness all around.

I’ve had acrylic nails off and on since I was in college (which was way back in 94!!!). It depends on how fast your nails grow as to how often you’ll need to get them filled. Generally it’s every two weeks. I stopped going every two weeks and just went once a month but that’s because up here where I am at it’s $25 for a fill and I couldn’t afford that twice a month.

Seeing your pic of them (they look nice by the way) makes me really really miss mine! It’s been about 2 months now since I stopped getting mine done :-(

  5. $15 fill-ins is a good deal. I have the gel nails that cost a fortune, but they work for me and I only go every 3-4 weeks. If you enjoy them, and can afford the up-keep, then I say treat yourself and do it!

Keep em – why not. I am the pamper yourself queen and I keep a standing biweekly appointment at the nail salon and get my fills like clockwork. The way I see it — I take care of others and spoil them — why not spoil myself too :)

I used to get my nails done all the time. I went every two weeks for fill-in’s and it usually cost like 15.00. I would love to get them again but they get in my way now (making hair bows).

I say keep them! They look great. I love the french manicure. I also like the American manicure too! They are more natural looking.
