I Am From

Welcome back!

I realized over the weekend how much I truly do want to make writing a part of my career at least. I truly do want to be a “Writer Mama” as the book I’m reading currently is titled. This book is truly inspiring.

So, on Sunday morning as I sat in the recliner perusing blogs online because my back hurt from lying awkwardly in bed with my preggo belly I came across this post on yet another person’s blog. It is called, “I Am From”. I tracked the outline down here and decided, ‘hey I’m a writer right? I’ll give it a go.” Here’s what I came up with, I hope you enjoy.

I AM FROM…….

I am from RC Cola and moon pies , from my  Papa George.

I am from one of the small towns just this side of the Mississippi Delta.

I am from the rolling hills that are laced with Kudzu.

I am from Sunday mornings at church and Sunday dinner at Momma Sue’s, from Connie and Terry who raised me up well.

I am from the strict rules of my father and the loving worries of my mother.

From “because I said so” and “reach for the stars”.

I am from Southern Baptist to the bone. Where you go to church every time the doors or open, volunteer for everything, drink lemonade and eat 2 cookies every time you go to church, and hug each other tightly as if you won’t see each other for years, when you’re actually coming back tonight.

I’m from hot and humid Mississippi, where you eat fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy every Sunday, or maybe meatloaf and turnip greens.

From the marriage of a man and woman who showed their love for each other, as a woman did everything for her husband, as he provides though he does not see everything through the same eyes of everyone else.

I am from dozens of family pictures stored away in photo albums and suitcases revealing the memories of my past, from home videos my dad made proudly and I watch with tears in my eyes as I recall a bittersweet but amazing childhood, one that I can only hope to recreate for my own children.
