    Never Say Never?

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Me

Do you believe the phrase, “Never say never.” or are there things you swear you’ll never do? Well, I found this cute post over at Janel of Dandelion Dayz blog as she had visited me from the She Speaks’s Mr. Linky on Lysa’s blog. She too is attending She Speaks in just 20 days… Yes I am still counting.

Anyway, she lists 20 things she’ll never do. I thought I’d do the same. It looked like a fun blog post.
    Here are my 20 Nevers.

    1. I will never leave Mississippi for good. At least I hope not. Visiting other places is one thing, living there is quite another.

    2. I will never stop loving Jesus.

    3. I will never get divorced. This I just don’t believe in.

    4. I will never regret staying home with my babies.

    5. I will never be athletic. Never have been, don’t think it’s something I”ll develop any time soon.

    6. I will never want my baby girl to be a Tomboy. I’m going to have 2 boys that’s enough boy tendencies.

    7. I will never stop journaling. At least I hope not because it is such a good experience for me.

    8. I will never stop loving Coca Cola Classic.

    9. I will never want to cut my own grass. I think that’s a man’s job.

    10. I will never stop becoming. That’s right we all have room to grow.

    11. I will never stop learning, there’s always something new to learn.

    12. I will never like politics.

    13. I will never understand the price of gas. UGH!

    14. I will never be good with numbers.

    15. I will never look back on my past and regret it or not want to know what the future holds.

    16. I will never stop believing in the power of prayer.

    17. I will never be queen of the remote control. My husband is king!

    18. I will never understand how some people can give up their unborn child through abortion.

    19. I will never get too much of my children’s laughter.

    20. I will never be perfect but I will strive to be the best me I can be!

    Yes, I’ll Be There

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Ministry, Just News

I’m writing this post for all you ladies who are hopping over from Lysa Terkeurst’s blog about She Speaks. Yes, I’ll be there. Even though I will be 36 weeks pregnant, read more about why this is so important to me here and why I believe this is a God thing here.

    She SPeaks

I want to say thanks to those of you who did come over from Lysa’s blog for coming and that I can’t wait to “meet” you. I am in awe that there will be 500 ladies there. Did I mention I’m bringing my husband? We celebrate 8 years together on June 17 and come to She Speaks later that week. It will be out “time away” just before baby #3 is born. AHHH!!! I hope I don’t loose him in all those women.

So, ladies, I LOVE comments so be sure to leave me one. If you’ve attended She Speaks before give me your best advice on getting the most out of it. If you have never attended before tell me briefly why you are attending. I would love to know everyone’s reasons.

The other day I set some goals for She Speaks because well I’m just a goal setter. I wouldn’t be me without a PLAN and a GOAL. So here are my goals for She Speaks.

    My Goals for She Speaks

    • I want to get a clearer vision of where I am going with my ministry.
    • I want to learn how to market myself better.
    • I want to decide if I am going to pursue becoming a published author.

If you have goals why not post them on your blog and then post the link in my comments and I’ll come over and read them and root you on. I love to be an encouragement to others. Again, I can’t wait to “Meet” you all at She Speaks. I fly out 3 weeks from today! WHOO HOO!!!

    I Love Being a WAHM - MEME

Published by Alyssa Avant under Memes

I was tagged by Carrie Lauth to do this blog meme, started by Kelly McCausey over at Sparkplugging and it is such a great topic I sure couldn’t resist a good tag. I can really appreciate this blog meme even more today, as I was able to do something I wanted to do without asking anyone for permission. WaHM

You see this blog meme is called “Why I Love Being a WAHM”. (Work at Home Mom) I have been a work at home mom for just over a year. When my baby girl was born last March I became a full time WAHM and I haven’t regretted that decision once.

Just today I experienced one of the reasons I love being a WAHM. I got to do what I WANTED instead of work. Today that just so happened to be going to see one of my bestfriends and their newborn (born yesterday) baby at the hospital out of town. Several of my other friends wanted to go but couldn’t. Guess why? They couldn’t take off work.

Another reason, that I also felt today is that I get to spend the day with my kids. Today, though I was only away a few hours I missed my kids. I know that if I had to be away from them daily for work I’d be miserable. In fact, my heart weighed heavy as I discussed with my friend when she would be taking her newborn son to daycare. Can you believe he’ll only be 8 weeks old. None of my children have had to do that (my previous job was part time and my son went with me). I’m due with baby #3 in just over 6 weeks and again, he won’t ever see the door of a daycare center.

Finally, another of my favorite reasons, though I’m sure there are more that I love working from home is I love what I do. I am doing what I feel God created me to do and I get to work from home while doing it. What could be better than that? I am fulfilling my God given calling of ministering to others, specifically teen and tween girls and their moms in my ministry Beauty by Design Ministries.

Now, I know a lot of WAHMs out there, as I am fortunate to interact with them via numerous WAHM communities so I know you all want to blog about this on your blog, but I’m tagging a few of you just in case.

    Summer Love

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Marriage

This is the sixth in a series of posts I am calling “My Little Love Story”.  You can read it from the beginning here.

Hesitantly, I leave for summer camp.  I will be away 8 weeks, only having 24 hours off per week.  I live about 45 minutes away from camp, so I’ll drive home on Saturday’s to spend 24 hours with my family, and HIM of course.  It is tough.  I do not have access to a telephone except on my 2 hour breaks each day.  Even then, I have to drive a few miles to pay phone.  Out in the boonies where the camp is there is no cell phone service so even though I have one it does me no good.

Several times during the summer the pay phone is out of order.  I beg the nurse, Nurse Nadine, to allow me to use her phone in her private room at camp.  She does, and I lock myself in the bathroom to talk with him.

Long distance relationships are tough, but by this point I am deeply in love with him.  He writes me letters weekly at camp and I write him back.  We spend as much of the 24 hours that I have off each week together.  Sometime during the middle of the summer, he promises we are going to get married.

It isn’t long until the big day comes,  the day he asks me to marry him that is.  I am home from camp for 24 hours.  My best friend from childhood is coming through my hometown on her way to see her parents and she drops by, we load up in his car to go get a snow cone.  She and I sit in the car as he is out getting them for us in the hot June heat.  She says, “I bet you he will ask you to marry him today. I bet you a dollar.”  We giggle, as I want this to happen, but never imagine that this will be the day.

Later that evening we have dinner with my parents and his at a local restaurant.  Afterwards he wants me to go with him to his parents house to watch a movie.  We get in the car and make our way over.  Suddenly as he’s driving he opens the glove compartment, pulls out a small white box and pops it open.  Inside is a beautiful diamond marquee engagement ring.  He looks over at me and asks, “Baby, Will you marry me?”  I squeal, and say “yes” trying to hug him, but mind you we’re still riding down the highway.  He laughs and grins clearly relieved at my answer.

Engagement ringLater that night we have to tell our parents of course.  As the weeks go by we set a date, one year from the very weekend he asks me, which falls on June 17, 2000, our wedding day.  This year in just a few short weeks we’ll celebrate 8 years.  It is amazing how fast time has flown by.  We have shared so many joys.  The Lord has indeed blessed our union.  I thank God for my husband.
