WAHM Wednesday: My Journey

Welcome back!

journeyEverything takes time.  My journey to becoming a WAHM has surely taken some time.  Surprisingly this is not what I imagined myself ever doing with my life.  I grew up in a home where academics were encouraged and of course I went to college.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2003 after going to college while being married and maintaining our home.  I have always done things the “hard way”, or so my mom says I do.  In high school and even while in college I was still dreaming of a career.  My parents had been a major encouragement in my deciding upon a career.

Though I felt a call to ministry my parents still encouraged me to do something professional as well.  Their idea was for me to enter the field of counseling.  They said, “There are Christian counselors.”  I did have the dreams of attending seminary because I felt it was something those who felt called to ministry did.  But, I was not sure about the counseling career.  For the first few years of my marriage, I attended college and made plans to continue my education in graduate school.  I applied, got in and began, but then things began to change.  Children came, yes, I got pregnant with child number one, had him, continued with school, and then came another baby, I slowed down on school, and began to think of other “options”.

Around this time, though I had a job, I was not happy with it.  I was in part time ministry, with strong thoughts of doing something full time, something different.  Something that would require making some difficult decisions.  I had felt and was feeling GOD call me to step out on faith and do speaking and events with the ministry I had created in 2005 full time.  This was something I had always truly wanted to do in my heart, but didn’t know if it would ever bring in an income or if bringing in an income it was even the right thing to do.

After finding out I was pregnant in 2006 with my 2nd child, I decided resigning from my position part time was the smart thing to do.  I then began pursuing doing more with my speaking ministry.  However, after months of working on it and not having an income, I knew I had to do something else.  That is when I began writing for others and life as a WAHM really truly begin to feel like a reality.  I was actually making an income working from home and even better I was doing something I enjoyed and I was still able to do my ministry.

I am glad I gave it the time it needed and I didn’t give up.  It was at many times difficult and though I never pictured myself doing what I am doing today it is the perfect fit.

    Hello,

My name is Michelle. I am a mother to 4 amazing boys. I have also been in the process to adopt a baby girl for over a year and a half now. I have tried several things to be a WAHM. My latest endeavor has been a Mary Kay business which has done more than anything else I have tried but still is “not enough” I was just wondering if you could give me any guidance, help tips….to being successful with being a WAHM. I am almost losing hope…

    Blessings!
