Ok, I admit it, I”m a total NERD

Published by Alyssa Avant under Just Frugal, Just Me

Hey it’s ok, I can admit when I am something and a NERD I am.  Yes, I am living frugally in 08′, yes, I’m starting a debt reduction plan, and I plan to not get into any more debt, yes, I check my bank account more than once a day, and yes, I check my email about 50 times a day. So I must be a nerd right?  Oh well!

Here’s what one nerd read on another nerd’s website, I’m sure Dave Ramsey won’t mind me calling him a nerd.  See, I’m following his methods so he should be proud.  Several days ago I blogged about the government’s possible stimulus plan. I wanted your opinions, but unfortunately no one gave me any, but you can count on dear ole Dave to give you his…. Here’s a little of what he said and a link to the rest of the article.

“Most of you are jumping with joy that you’re probably going to be getting a big, fat check from the government. FREE MONEY, BABY!!!

Well, I’m not here to totally rain on your parade, but plain and simple, I’m not lovin’ this plan. This government plan to try to stimulate the economy and pull us away from a possible recession is actually straight-up socialism - just the opposite of capitalism! I don’t want my money to help you (especially if you haven’t paid federal income taxes) buy an iPhone or whatever else you have your eye set on.”

He also gave us some ideas for what he would do with the money including: pay off debt (which is my plan), invest it ( I would if I was out of deb), and finally have a little fun! Hey he’s not all bad.  :)  In fact, my new financial counselor and I just talked about this this week and she is Dave certified.  I was talking about the fact that I’d be getting a tax refund, we discussed what I should use the money for and she even said I should use a little of it to have a little fun.  My fun of choice:  my husband and I are going out with a few close friends to a pretty nice restaurant for Valentine’s Day.  I can’t wait!  Now who says getting out of debt, and being a nerd can’t be fun?

Do you toot your own horn?

Published by Alyssa Avant under Memes

Well, today you can.  I did, I joined in Mommycommunity’s new meme, Tuesday Toot and tooted my own horn over at my ministry blog.  Check it out!  Hey, a $10 McDonald’s gift card was up for grabs, who can resist that when you have a 4 year old who constantly wants chicken and fries and mom honestly could “use a break today!”
