My First CVS Trip

Published by Alyssa Avant at 5:14 pm under Just Frugal

Today I made my very first trip inside a CVS. I had read all the hype about it and their famous Extra Care Bucks.    I was so excited I had to share my savings and earnings, since I earned my first $2.00 in Extra Care Bucks.  I bought the Palmolive Dish Liquid that gave you ECB’s as well as the Buy 1, Get 1 Free Lays’  and 2 Liter Cokes.  I saved a total of $5.78 which for my first trip I thought was great!

I will also share with you what I did for groceries.  Normally, I shop the first week for groceries and paper goods for the month. I buy enough to last the entire month (the paper goods that is ).  I am considering this my first trip for January since this will hold me through next Thursday, January 3.  Normally, my trip to Walmart at the first of the month costs me in the neighborhood of $100-110.

Today’s trip however I walked out with a buggy full for $70. 82.  Even with CVS I only spent $79 or so. At Walmart, I noticed that Scott tissue was on sale for $6 for 12 mega rolls. Normally I buy the Northern Tissue for $5.94 for 6 mega rolls I realized what a huge savings the Scott would be though it is normally $7.97 for that 12 pack.  So, one savings there.  Another thing I did was use 4 coupons that totaled $2.55 in savings.  So today, my savings was at least $10 if you take into acct the tissue.  I am proud of myself.

If you look at it this way $110 my normal shopping trip versus $79 today I saved $31.  Is that not frugal or what?

I love CVS also! I started going to CVS due a friend of mine who had twins around the same time I had my son. She swore by their diapers and the fact they were a great deal. They have everyone once in a while buy one get one pack FREE of their brand! The diapers have a nice stretchy band and go on easily. What I did before I had my son is every time they ran this special I would take advantage and buy different sizes each time and just stocked up! It really helped once my son came along. I also used brand named as well with coupons, etc..!!! I really love CVS! Our CVS recently got a “minute clinic” inside it. I think it is like for flu shots and minor things..but I thought, hmm…that is really cool! Love the drive thru pharmacy, fast and friendly and it is so easy to make your refills online and just go when it says it is ready in the drive thru! Really great when you are not feeling well!

    Great job!

Another tip is whatever you save - either from coupons or just from things being on sale - put that in a savings somewhere. Either in a separate bank account or just cash in a jar.

Way to go Alyssa! We don’t have a CVS around here. I’m looking for ways to save to especially considering I am no longer on public assistance (food stamps) and have a VERY low budget for groceries.

I’m having fun with the low budget though. I’m turning it into a game & trying to not focus on the fact that I have so little to spend on groceries each week.
